Methodology

The overall score

Overall = weighted average of four components on a 1–5 scale: owner sentiment (40%), recommendations (15%), spec score (25%) and value (20%). A component without evidence is Not rated, and its weight is spread across the others; it is never counted as zero.

Where the reviews come from

Reviews are Reddit comments only, from r/Tools, r/DIY, r/HomeImprovement, r/Construction, r/woodworking, r/electricians and brand subreddits, via the Arctic Shift Reddit archive. A comment counts toward a model when it names the model (model number or known nickname). A top-level reply in a single-product thread counts when it refers to the drill ("it", "the drill", "mine") and names no other brand or model. Comments naming only a brand feed brand pages, not model scores.

A comment is an owner comment only when the writer describes their own use. Questions, hypotheticals, bot replies and deleted comments are excluded. Ratings come from sentiment words in the comment. One comment per author per thread counts.

Updates and independence
